Exceeding expectations.

Carrooka is a must for any snooker fans out there. In fact it's a must if you've ever enjoyed table football, air hockey or klask. It is simple to set up and incredibly accessible. Carrooka packages all the excitement and unpredictability of a real snooker game down to a scale that means you can play almost anywhere.

The build quality is incredible high. The thick durable wooden board ensures that you won't be having to worry about the playing surface warping. The durability also means that the counters can be hit with force around the board without any concern about damage. There is no splintering of the wood. The green stain and black lines on the wood are vivid whilst still allowing the grain to show. The board rotates smoothly and in a very satisfying way that adds to the pleasure of playing. It feels like a quality product and you'll be wondering how they manage to sell it for such a reasonable price.

Carrooka is an incredibly accessible game. If you have half decent eye sight and can flick one finger you are good to go. It means a broad range of people with different ability levels will be able to play. It takes up very little space in the home and it's small size means even a young child will comfortably be able to reach the striker anywhere on the table. The rotating board means nobody will be required to walk laps around the table in order to play.

The game itself captures all the magic of snooker and pool. You can make a break that avoids leaving your opponent an easy pot. You can play a strategic safety game, including snookers. Plants work, cannons work and you'll be missing seemingly easy pots and getting lucky flukes just like the pros. It beautifully captures the feel of other snooker elements like the long pot, which is still a real challenge even on this small board. They have altered the rules slightly so that fouls don't award points but instead gives your apparent a bonus shot. I wasn't sure about this rule change at first but it does work well, and you could always award points for fouls if you wanted. Four player works really well also, very much aided by the rotating board.

If you watch videos on YouTube of people playing Carrooka and it looks fun to you I would say go for it. Because it is definitely fun but what doesn't come across in the videos is the joy of how it feels and sounds to play. The smooth sliding of the discs, the satisfying *kathlunk* of a pot and the quality feel of the wooden board and pieces. It's got the same appeal of owning a really nice wooden chess set. I would strongly recommend getting your hands on a scoreboard, pool counters and the triangle if you can.

The only downsides to Carrooka are that it requires a flat surface to play as even slight tilt to the board will have pieces sliding in a way that can negatively impact a game. The game can be a little loud when the pieces hit the rail, which could be irritating to others. As the game uses flat discs not balls it lacks elements of cue ball control that exist in snooker and pool.

Read/watch other reviews, check measurements so you know it fits, wait a day or two before deciding if you want to buy it...but I am pretty sure you will want a Carrooka board if you read this far.
